This stretch of nurseries is located near the Sg Buloh Medical Centre where much of the land has been stripped clean for construction projects and roadbuilding. A pleasant respite from the hustle and bustle of the city, this place used to be shun by city folks for being a refuge camp for leprosy patients in the sixties. Today the main attraction of Sg Buloh is its numerous nurseries selling plants of almost every kind known to horticulture, in addition to gardening materials and tools.

The highlights of plants here include flowering annuals and perennials, many of which come with full blooms and reasonable prices. There are however nurseries that have overpriced plants, but for the seasoned buyer one will know where to look.

Flowering plants like these tuberous begonias are shipped in from highland nurseries such as in Cameron Highlands, who in turn, import them from oversea countries such as Holland and Thailand. Some annuals are only meant for buy-and- display, after which the plant is eventually discarded when they either wilt or refuse to grow well or rebloom after a while.

Leaf begonias can be found by the dozens, in every shape and size, the profusion of colours bursting under the hot afternoon sun. Rex begonias dominate the nurseryscape, with an occasional angelwing tucked in somewhere between.

Hanging plants are no less in number, the most popular are the Petunias which are favourites among the city dwellers during festive occasions.

Here Lantanas can be bought cheap, so as most other plants like this Hippeastrum.

Orchid stalls were the last leg of the stretch. The blooms were simply too beautiful to resist, unfortunately they require as much care and consistency in growing regimes just as much as any other type of flowering plant; without them the plants will survive but will not thrive.

All in all the visit was rewarding as the trip will most likely end with a purchase or more. This is one of the few places to be considered unique, as fast as land development may advance forward, it is hoped that these last standing nurseries remain there as long as it can.
